Evergreen Outreach:

Sharing Hope, One Act of Kindness at a Time

At Evergreen Presbyterian Church, our Outreach Ministry is a vibrant expression of faith in action. Each week, our members extend Christ’s love beyond the church walls—feeding, encouraging, and uplifting our neighbors throughout the Dothan community. We give thanks for the many hands and hearts that make this mission possible!

Feeding Families Through the Food Pantry

Perhaps the most visible arm of Evergreen’s Outreach is our Food Pantry. Week after week, it hums with activity—shopping, packing, sorting, distributing—all powered by dedicated volunteers. The Pantry annually serves over 2,500 families, offering much more than groceries; it’s a source of compassion and hope. Each Wednesday morning, bags of food are shared with those in need, while teams work behind the scenes on Tuesdays and Thursdays to shop for and stock shelves. Packing teams assemble 120 grocery bags each week for distribution, ensuring every detail is cared for. It’s a labor of love—and a remarkable example of faith in motion. Interested in helping out? Our in-house food pantry serves approximately 50-60 families each week. This translates into about 5000 bags of groceries annually, shared with those in need. Each family receives 2 full bags of groceries, bakery items, cereal, fruits and vegetables when available. Families may return every 4 weeks to receive food and they are always grateful for the goods they receive. Some of the clients we serve now volunteer to help pass out food on Wednesdays.

We invite anyone to come and take a tour of the food pantry, located behind the community room, or just show up on Wednesday morning about 8:15 to help pass out food. Canned items are always needed to replenish our supplies. Monetary donations are appreciated and go a long way toward meeting this critical need.

Serving at Mama Tina’s Mission House

At Mama Tina’s Mission House, Dothan’s only soup kitchen, Evergreen members continue to share in the important work of feeding up to 340 people per volunteer week each month. Once a month, our volunteers roll up their sleeves to help pack and serve meals, reminding us that service nourishes both the giver and the receiver. Partnering with Girard Schools

Our partnership with Girard 6th Grade Academy and Girard Elementary continues to bless both students and staff. Each Friday, Evergreen sends weekend food bags home with students who might otherwise go without—helping more than 145 children

each semester.

Evergreen also celebrates academic success by providing prizes and treats for students in Girard Elementary Accelerated Reader program. During the fall of 2025, Girard reached out inquiring about assistance with their tutoring program. We are currently working on this new project and continue to seek volunteers to help our Girard students with their reading and math skills. In addition to the aforementioned partnerships, twice a year, we show appreciation for the dedicated teachers and staff with special meals prepared and served by Evergreen volunteers. These small gestures have a big impact, building bridges of care and encouragement between our church and local schools. Interested in participating in this partnership whether it be food preparation or tutoring? Please reach out to us at 334-792-7898.

Caring for Others in Transition

For many years, Evergreen supported the residents of Herring House, providing boxes of food and hygiene products for those beginning a new chapter. Whether to individuals or the community kitchen, this has been an important part of the Outreach program at Evergreen, providing more than 50 boxes of food annually. Although Herring House closed its doors during the fall of 2025, we give thanks for the lives touched through that ministry and continue to explore new ways to extend care to those in similar need.

Many Hands, One Mission

Evergreen’s Outreach Ministry is a living example of what happens when faith and service intertwine. Each meal prepared, each child fed, and each person cared for reflects the love of Christ at work in our community. Behind every statistic are stories of grace and gratitude—and none of it would be possible without the generosity and dedication of Evergreen members like you.

Whether you have time to serve or resources to share, know that every contribution, large or small, helps sustain this important work and allows Evergreen to continue being a light in the Wiregrass. For more information about any of these ministries, or to learn how you can get involved, contact the church office at 334-792-7898 or office@evergreenpres.church, and we’ll help you connect.
